At a Glance
The Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek in Nepal leads to the foot of Mount Kanchenjunga, the world's third-highest mountain at 8,586 m. The mountain stands in the far northeast of the country, on the border with Sikkim (India) and Tibet. This trek takes you through the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area in eastern Nepal. It is one of the few Himalayan routes where a full circuit connects two separate base camps: Pangpema (North Base Camp) and Oktang (South Base Camp).
The Kanchenjunga Trek is a different kind of journey from Nepal's popular routes such as Everest Base Camp or the Annapurna Circuit. Those trails have dense lodge networks, frequent trekkers and short access roads. The Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek has none of that. You start from the hill town of Taplejung, walk for days through villages where few international trekkers pass, and cross high ridges between two river systems. A full North and South circuit takes about three weeks. That time gives you proper acclimatization and lets you see both sides of the mountain.
Royal Nepal Holidays, based in Thamel, Kathmandu, runs this trek for the 2027 trekking season as a private departure or small-group trip. This page covers the route, itinerary, cost, permits, difficulty, altitude, weather, packing and booking details, so you can decide whether the trek suits you and what it takes to prepare.
